TAMPA, FL - University of Dayton Director of Media Relations Doug Hauschild was recognized for over 25 years of service at the 2008 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Workshop on Wednesday.

Hauschild came to the University of Dayton as an undergraduate student in 1975. While in pursuit of a communications degree, he gathered experiences with the Cincinnati Reds and the Dayton Daily News that would prepare him for his successful future at Dayton. He joined the UD athletics staff full time in 1981 as an assistant sports information director working for his mentor, Gene Schill. Hauschild was promoted to the top spot shortly later following CoSIDA honors for his work on athletics publications.

Although he spent 1981 to 1983 as the head fast pitch softball coach at UD and still holds the school record for winning percentage, Hauschild has made his mark by recording Flyer athletics history instead of making it. As the Director of Media Relations for the UD Division of Athletics, he serves as the primary sports contact for the football and men's basketball programs, as well as coordinator for the UD Athletics Hall of Fame.

He has worked on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee since June 1993, but has truly made his mark as a game day host. Hauschild has served as Media Coordinator for 65 NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament games at UD Arena since taking over as SID in 1982. He was the host for the start of Cinderella Tournament runs by Villanova in 1985 and George Mason 2006 on the men's side. Hauschild and UD Arena have served as host to the resurrection of the NCAA Opening Round game since 2001 giving many teams the first postseason win in their school's history and making it as important - if not more - than every other game during the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament. He was also a key member of UD Arena's successful hosting of the 2002 and 2003 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship.

He has been sent along with other members for UD to teach other first time NCAA Tournament hosts how to host the tourney from a media relations perspective.

Hauschild lives in Beavercreek with his wife Patty. They have three children - Kim, Rob and Michael.
