DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Flyers used a game-tying grand slam by Jacob Spaeth to rally from an 8-1 deficit en route to a 14-10 win over the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday at Time Warner Cable Stadium to complete their second consecutive Atlantic 10 sweep.
A sharp wind, and a steady light rainfall plagued both teams in the game. Despite the soggy conditions, both teams only combined for one error apiece in the game.
Spaeth was 2-for-3 on the day with four RBI and three runs scored for the Flyers. Senior catcher Scott Dunwoody continued to pile on the hits, and now has an 11-game hitting streak. Dunwoody was 1-for-4 with three runs scored.
Right-handed freshman Chuck Ghysels had a tough start on the day, hampered some by the wet conditions. Ghysels allowed eight earned runs, while striking out six batters in 4.2 innings pitched.
Reliever Cameron Hobson tossed 4.1 innings, fanning 10 batters, walking one and allowing just one unearned run.
The Flyers will face the Butler Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Victory Field in Indianapolis, Ind. The game will be carried live on 1660 Information Radio.
