FARGO, N.D. - Eric Dawson, a 2009 incoming freshman for the University of Dayton baseball program, helped the Midland, Mich. Post 165 team capture the American Legion World Series on Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field with an 11-4 win over Medford, Ore.
Dawson was named to the All-Tournament team after hitting .333 in the tournament. He totaled 11 RBI, two doubles and one triple. In the Tuesday's final, he went 1-for-3 with one walk and one sacrifice.
With Tuesday's championship win, Midland, Mich. became the first team from Michigan to win a Legion World Series since 1959 when Detroit won the championship.
Dawson will join the Flyers this fall as they prepare to defend their Atlantic 10 regular season championship. Last season, Dayton won a program-best 38 games while setting records in batting average, runs, hits, RBI, home runs and doubles.
