DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton baseball opens the 2012 home schedule on Tuesday afternoon against Bowling Green State at Time Warner Cable Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET with forecasted sunny skies and a high near 50 degrees.

The Flyers (1-4) are coming off their first win of the season during the High Point series last weekend, defeating the Panthers 10-2 in game two of the series. Freshman A.J. Ryan was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week after leading the Flyer offense with a .556 average and five RBI against the Panthers. Senior Mike Hauschild (1-0) was UD’s winning pitcher on Saturday, throwing eight innings with just one earned run.

Junior college transfer Parker Schrage (0-2) will make his first start on the mound as a Flyer on Tuesday. The Madison (Wis.) College product has been on the short end of two one-run loss decisions after a pair relief outings this season. Schrage has pitched 4 1/3 innings with a 2.08 ERA and one strikeout.

Bowling Green (0-5) is coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of Oklahoma State and lost the first two games of the season against Kansas and Saint Louis in Nashville, Tenn. After Tuesday’s trip to Dayton, the Falcon’s will play seven consecutive games in Winter Haven and Auburndale, Fla., from March 3 through 10.

BGSU senior Matt Malewitz will make his first start of the season on the mound on Tuesday. He has pitched one inning in relief this season, allowing one run against Saint Louis. After five games, catcher T.J. Losby leads the Falcon offense with a .571 average (8-for-14) and five-game hitting streak.

Last season Dayton defeated BGSU, 13-2, in Bowling Green on April 13. Seven Flyers recorded multi-hit games, led by Brian Blasik’s 4-for-5 day at the plate. On a pitching staff-day Burny Mitchem received credit for the win after 1 2/3 shutout innings with two strikeouts. BGSU leads the all-time series with Dayton, 41-20.
