Dayton Flyers

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Dayton baseball lost to Butler, 8-5, on Tuesday evening at Bulldog Park.

Senior centerfielder Bobby Glover extended his hitting streak to 10 games as the Flyers took an early 4-0 lead through four innings. Glover hit a double in the first inning and finished the day 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored.

Indianapolis native Mel Skochdopole led off the fourth inning with a single to left field. Skochdopole stole both second and third base before being driven in by Glover on a single down the left field line which put UD up 4-0. Skochdopole notched his first multi-hit game of the season at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Tommy Konrad impressed early in the game during his first start of his Flyer career. Konrad threw four innings on a staff day, giving up just one run and three hits with six strikeouts. He exited the game with the Flyers up 4-1.

Butler (4-7) came back with four runs in the fifth inning and took the go-ahead lead with two runs in the sixth inning. The Bulldogs’ offensive spark was led by centerfielder Jack Dillon and shortstop Austin Miller. Dillon finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBI and Miller finished with a 3-for-5 clip with one RBI.

It is Butler’s second win against Dayton in the last nine games of the series.

The Flyers will compete in Clarksville, Tenn., this weekend at the Riverview Inn Challenge, hosted by Austin Peay. Dayton will face Arkansas State on Friday, Austin Peay on Saturday and Northern Illinois on Sunday.
