DAYTON - Behind a game-high 21 points from junior Monty Scott, the University of Dayton rolled to an 86-61 victory over the University of Findlay in an exhibition game at UD Arena Saturday afternoon. The game was the Flyers' final tune-up before next Friday's season-opener at home versus Tennessee Tech at 8 p.m.

Scott was 6-of-9 from the field, 7-of-8 at the free throw line, pulled down five rebounds, had an assist, a block and a steal in the winning effort. He was one of four Flyers in double-figures as Brian Roberts poured in 15 points, Chris Alvarez had 12 and Warren Williams had 10.

Findlay, which finished last season 30-4 and was the top-ranked Division II team in the nation, got 18 points from Frank Phillips and 16 points from D-II All-America candidate Dustin Pfeifer. The Oilers gave the Flyers all they could handle last season in an exhibition game, which UD pulled out 63-61.

The Flyers, who never trailed in this game, opened up a 44-28 lead at the half, thanks in part to shooting 56 percent from the field (18-32) and 50 percent from three-point range (4-8). The defense held the Oilers to just 9-of-27 shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

UD opened the game with a 9-0 run, holding Findlay scoreless until a layup by Phillips at the 15:27 mark sparked a 5-0 run for the visitors. The Flyers would answer right back, as an Alvarez layup at 10:56 made the score 20-8 and capped an 11-3 spurt for Dayton.

A basket from James Cripe with eight seconds remaining in the half gave the Flyers a 16-point edge heading to the locker room.

An announced crowd of 10,961 (paid) saw Dayton continued to build on that advantage in the second half and lead by 26 - its largest of the game - at 60-34 with 14:15 remaining. Roberts scored eight in that 16-6 run to start the second half.

Coach Brian Gregory spread out the playing time (10 of the 14 who played saw 10 or more minutes) and got balance all over the floor as 13 Flyers scored and 11 got at least a rebound.

Roberts scored his 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. He also dished out seven assists against two turnovers and had a steal. Williams was an assist shy of a double-double. Norman Plummer pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Nick Stafford came off the bench to pull down five boards.

For the game, UD shot 52 percent (33-63) from the field, 46 percent (6-13) from long range, and 70 percent (14-20) from the line.

UD's game next Friday is part of a men's and women's doubleheader at the Arena. The UD women will play host to Akron at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men versus Tennessee Tech at 8 p.m.
