Q&A WITH FLYER FRESHMAN CHRIS WRIGHT

Nov. 7, 2007

The University of Dayton Flyers open their 100th season of basketball Saturday when the East Tennessee State Buccaneers visit UD Arena beginning at 2 p.m ET.

For the Flyers it will not only be their regular season opener, but the official debut of preseason Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selection Chris Wright.

In this question and answer session with DaytonFlyers.com, Wright talks about his game, the upcoming season and the expectations on the team.

For those that might not know a lot about you, describe your overall game. What can fans expect from Chris Wright?
Most people expect me to score, but I can change the game in different ways by rebounding and running the floor. I'm going to play hard and do anything to win. If I score zero and we get the win by 10 plus, I'm cool with that because I want to win and I'm a winner. I'm going to play my game and not get away from that.

What did you work on over the summer to improve your overall game?
Trying to improve my ball handling and working on hitting the same shot every time.

What is the biggest difference for you since graduating high school and now being at Dayton?
The biggest adjustment has been being away from my mom and having her wake me up in the morning. As far as the schoolwork, it's a lot different as far in being able to workout in the morning, then going to a class that is an hour and thirty minutes long and still stay up and function in the classroom.

Talk about Brian Roberts and playing with him on the same court.
He's just a real good leader. He shows the in-and-outs of what to do and what not to do. That's somebody you always want to pattern your game after. Just how hard he goes, how he attacks the game, how he approaches the game mentally, to me it's a blessing to be around him because of the type of person he is.

He's been here before and now he's a senior. I remember him as a freshman and I was trying to emulate his moves all of the time. I didn't think I would get a chance to play with him because I didn't think I was coming to Dayton until I started being recruited by Dayton. It's a blessing to be around him because of the type of person he is.

Expectations are high for this year's team. Are those expectations by others justified?
Expectations really start with yourself. The expectations we have for us, we have to meet those first before anybody else's. We know what we need to do. We follow the concept of what we put in is what we will get out. We have to meet our expectations first before meeting anything else.
