Dayton Coach Brian Gregory
"Obviously we are very pleased with our guys' performance today against what I think is going to be a great team this year coached by one of the better coaches that have ever coached. As a program and a team it was a great win. We got a lot of great basketball from a lot of different guys.
"Brian (Roberts) had a couple of sub-par games coming into this one, but the mark of a great player when that happens is to study it, figure out why it is happening, figure out how to correct it, look your self in the mirror and then step up to the challenge. He had a huge game."
"Brian demonstrated for everyone to see that he is a great player. He's so efficient. . He doesn't take bad shots; I think he took one bad shot today. He was very aggressive. For 40 minutes today, he was the best player on the floor. He had zero turnovers today, and he was being pressured all over the court. In two years against Louisville, he's played almost 80 minutes (77 to be exact) and he has one turnover. That takes an unbelievable amount of discipline."
"It wasn't just Brian's play today, as good as it was. He took a huge step forward today as a leader."
"This is, what, Kurt Huelsman's 39th career game? And he's had to go against Hansbrough, Gray from Pitt, Lasme and now Caracter. It's tough to put in a sound bite how well he played today. Louisville has so many back-cuts and lob-action in their offense, and they had none of that today. Plus guarding a guy like Caracter. Kurt made a huge post move after they made their run and then knocked down those clutch free throws. He make his minutes count today."
"We had so many guys step up and make contributions today. Everyone has a hand in every win, but it was so true today. The sum of whole was greater than the parts, that's for sure."
"I was very pleased with the second half. We lost it there for a couple of minutes and Louisville made us lose it. We gathered our composure and really made plays during that last ten minutes." "We lost a little bit of our poise on offense and took some quick shots. We wanted to attack and if you saw some of the plays we made tonight they were in transition and we were attacking them in the open court. That's the way we want to play. We have the athletic ability to do some of that. The next step is to make good decision with that ability. We took some quick shots and they weren't necessarily bad shots when we weren't open. We just didn't have the chance to break them down. We're a better offense when we reverse the ball and get the defense out of shape and then use our defense ability to attack the basket. We went back to that in the last ten minutes." "We took a step forward today as a team and some individuals took a big step forward. We just have to keep building on this. We were fortunate to beat Louisville last year but they were the ones who continued to improve during the year and make it to the tournament and past the first round. Those are the things we inspire to do. It is a great win and it is one of the steps we want to take as a team."
Senior Guard Brian Roberts
"We just had to play hard for 40 minutes straight. We knew they were home and were going to go on some runs, but we knew we had a good team too. We just had to play hard every minute of the game."
"We lost a little poise when they went on that run, and we got out of character and took some quick shots. But we got back under control and finished the game up strong."
"I made some free throws, Jimmy made some key plays, Kurt, we all did it together."
Sophomore Forward Kurt Huelsman
"We wanted to get, push them around and make them run. We did a good job of keeping our poise and toughing it out."
