DAYTON HOLDS ON FOR A 65-58 VICTORY AT MIAMI

OXFORD, Ohio - Chris Johnson tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and a career-best four steals as the University of Dayton Flyers held on for a 65-58 victory over the Miami Redhawks.

Chris Wright added 14 points and Marcus Johnson became just the 41st player in UD history to reach the 1,000 point milestone.

Marcus Johnson finished the contest with six points. He also came up with a clutch rebound and two key free throws with 11 seconds remaining to help the Flyers seal the victory.

The senior class also became the first Dayton group to defeat Miami four consecutive times in 30 seasons.

Kurt Huelsman enjoyed his best overall game of the season chipping in with seven points and seven rebounds, while Mickey Perry dished out a career-best six assists to go with five points.

Dayton led 59-53 in the second half when the Redhawks rallied with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to one with 33 seconds to play. London Warren kept the Flyers ahead when he sank two free throws to extend the lead to 61-58 with 26 seconds to play.

The Flyers then got two defensive stops and a key rebound by Marcus Johnson to hold on and improve to 4-2 overall.

Dayton led 30-28 at halftime thanks to a resilient, balanced offensive attack. Three Flyers, Wright, Chris Johnson and Perry, had five points apiece as the Flyers roared back into the game using a 14-2 run midway through the first 20 minutes of play.

The Flyers opened the second half with a 7-3 run to start the second half and continued to chip away at the Miami defense.

UD used a steady dose of three-point shots to eventually build a solid second half cushion. Three pointers by Chris Johnson and Paul Williams gave UD its biggest lead at 43-36 with 11:40 minutes remaining.

Marcus Johnson scored his 1,000th career point on a running jumper with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation to extend the Flyer lead to 51-43.

Dayton shot 49 percent from the field and 6-of-15 from three point range. Defensively, the Flyers forced 14 Miami turnovers and had seven steals.

Chris Johnson completed the game 4-of-9 from the floor, 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc and tallied three blocks as well.

The Flyers' next contest will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5 as Dayton hosts the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. ET.
