DAYTON CLOSES OUT EXHIBITION SLATE WITH 85-68 WIN OVER OILERS

Redshirt junior Josh Parker had a solid outing against Findlay, posting a team-high 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists

DAYTON, Ohio –
The University of Dayton men’s basketball team closed out its exhibition slate with an 85-68 win over Findlay Saturday night at UD Arena.

Redshirt junior Josh Parker led all Dayton scorers with 15 points, and also dished out a game-high four assists (with no turnovers in 20 minutes on the court). He dealt the assist on freshman Brandon Spearman’s layup at14:10 that gave UD the lead for good. Parker was 3-of-5 from behind the arch, including back-to-back treys to help the Flyers pull away from the Oilers, 49-44, at the 13:33 mark. Parker also tied for the game-high in rebounds with seven.

Eleven different Flyers scored, including four who reached double figures. In addition to Parker, junior Chris Johnson and Paul Williams, as well as freshman Juwan Staten each scored 12 points. Johnson also tied for the game-high in rebounds with seven. Williams and Spearman each also had three assists.

Senior Chris Wright had nine points and five rebounds for UD.

Findlay senior Nathan Hyde led all scorers with 21 points on 6-of-13 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from three-point range. He also had seven rebounds. Sophomore Aaron Robinson contributed 16 points for the Oilers.

The game was tied at 31 apiece at the half after the Oilers shot 50 percent from three-point range (5-of-10). Only shooting 29 percent from behind the arch in the first half, UD turned it up and converted 57 percent in the second stanza (4-of-7).

The Flyers outscored Findlay 21-10 in the final 7:12 of the game and held their largest lead of the night, a 19-point advantage of 85-66, with 39 seconds left to play in the game.

Dayton won the battle of the boards, 38-28, and also forced 17 turnovers to Findlay’s 12. The Flyers shot 75 percent (24-of-32) from the free throw line, while the Oilers only made it to the line 17 times, making 13 for 77 percent.

UD went 2-0 in exhibition games, also tallying a 77-66 victory over Grand Valley State on Nov. 1.
