2011
Bornhorst ran in three varsity races for the Flyers this season and contributed an average mile pace time of 5:27.4. For the second year in a row, he opened his season by running a time of 16:45 in the Flyer 5K. Bornhost contributed times of 27:33 at the Pre-National’s 8K and 27:18 at the A-10’s 8K in varsity action for the Flyers.

2010
In his first race of 2010, the Flyer 5K, Bornhorst finished with a time of 16:45, helping the team to a second place finish overall.  Just one week later, Derek finished the Mel Brodt Invitational in 26:59, and watched the Flyers take first place overall.

2009
As a rookie, competed in two races for the Flyers, placing 74th overall at the Flyer 5K. Bornhorst also crossed the line as the 118th runner at the Mel Brodt Invitational.

High School
Bornhorst was named to the Division III All-State Cross Country Team his senior season...The 2007 Shelby County League Runner of the Year was a four-time Cross Country Team MVP at Russia Local High School...He garnered Shelby County First Team honors during the 2005, '07, and '08 seasons and also excelled academically as he was named to the Academic All-Ohio Team and was a member of the National Honor Society.
