DAYTON ANNOUNCES 2012 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

Schedule In PDF Format // Youth Camp Registration Form
Five home games and a season-opener against fully-funded FCS team Illinois State highlight the 2012 University of Dayton football schedule, which was announced today.

When the Flyers open the season at Illinois State on Sept. 1, it will be the first time UD has played a fully-funded NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision team since they played at St. Mary’s of California in 2001.  ISU, a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, has up to 63 scholarship student-athletes on its roster.  Dayton is a member of the Pioneer Football League, which is a non-scholarship football conference.

Illinois State finished 2011 ranked 17th in FCS football.  The Redbirds were 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the MVC.  They finished behind FCS champion North Dakota State and playoff participant Northern Iowa.

Dayton will then play at Duquesne on Sept. 8.  That will mark the first time the Flyers have begun a season with two straight road games since 1977 when they played at Miami (Oh) and at Butler to start the year.  Dayton also opened the 1981 season at California (Pa.) State and then played the second game of the year at a neutral site – Galbreath Field at the former College Football Hall of Fame in Kings Island, Ohio – against Ashland.

Dayton’s home opener will be Sept. 15 against Robert Morris.  The next week, UD will open the PFL season at home against Jacksonville.

The Flyers will then go back on the road for a pair at Butler (Sept. 29) and Davidson (Oct. 6) before returning home to meet Morehead State (Oct. 13) and Valparaiso (Oct. 20).  Dayton will play the 2011 PFL co-champions in back-to-back weeks, traveling to San Diego to take on USD on Oct. 27 and then returning home for Senior Day versus Drake on Nov. 3.

UD will finish the regular season on Nov. 10 at Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

All five Flyer home games will be played at Welcome Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Dayton was 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the PFL in 2011. UD returns 14 starters from that team, led by a pair of 2011 First Team All-PFL performers – running back and Flyer MVP Taylor Harris and linebacker Bryan Bailin.

UD will wrap up its spring practice season with the annual Spring Game on Sunday, April 22.  Kickoff at is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.  The game will be preceded by a youth football clinic at 11:30 a.m. ET.  Admission to both events is free.
