DAYTON, Ohio- Fourteen senior University of Dayton football players are among the honorees in the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame’s 2012 Hampshire Honor Society.  A total of 721 players from 232 schools were recognized.  The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.

Named to the Hampshire Honor Society were: Brian Bailin, Sean Belanger, Matt Brockberg, Justin Griffis, Tyler Hujik, Alex Johnston, Devon Langhorst, Jamie Mewhinney, Jared Philips, Dan Prindle, Tyler Savisky, Tyler Shutz, Charles Vasey, and Steve Wirkus.

UD was second only to Brown University, who had 15 members, among Division I institutions.  The overall top five schools were Union College with 18, Central College of Iowa with 16, Brown, Dayton and Johns Hopkins and Yale tied with 12.

In addition to achieving a 3.2 cumulative GPA, an honoree must have been a starter or significant substitute in one’s final year of eligibility and must be fulfilling all NCAA-mandated progress toward degree requirements.
