HENDERSONVILLE, NC - The UD Men's Golf Team shot a final round 301, five strokes better than yesterday's score, to finish the Western Carolina Intercollegiate with a team total of 607. The tournament, held at Etowah Valley Country Club, was won by Wofford College by virtue of a playoff. Dayton finished 11th out of 12 teams in the field.
The top finisher for the Flyers was senior John Zaller, who shot an even-par 72. Zaller finished his final match of the fall season in a tie for 25th place, moving up 13 spots from yesterday's opening round.
Teammates Rob Chappell and Sam Morton finished in a tie for 33rd place, tallying a two day total of 152. Chappell shot an even-par 72 on Sunday, while Morton ended with a five-over-par 77.
Freshman Kenny Wittenberg, who finished in a tie for 40th, totaled a 155 for the two day tournament and an 80 in the final round of play. Rounding out competition for the Flyers was sophomore Mitch Custenborder, who shot a final round 80, to finish in a tie for 51st place.
