Biography: With a passion on developing the complete student-athlete, Gip Hoagland has brought a level of energy and enthusiasm to the table that is infectious and inspiring.
Hoagland is in his third season as the Dayton Flyers Men’s Golf Head Coach. In a short amount of time, Hoagland has helped solidify the Flyer program and continue to recruit high-caliber golfers who succeed on the course, in the classroom and out in the community.
The 2010-11 campaign was a memorable one as Hoagland led the Flyers to eight Top 10 finishes. He also had Chris Woeste earn a second team CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District At-Large selection. The last Flyer golfer to earn all-district accolades was John Zaller back in 2007. Woeste was also named the University of Dayton’s 2010 Presidential Scholar-Athlete of the Year during Hoagland's guidance.
During the 2009-10 campaign, Hoagland oversaw a program that had Flyer golfer Jeff Hodapp qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship, Sean Keating earn a 2010 Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection and Woeste be selected to the 2010 Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf All-Academic Team. In the classroom, Hoagland’s 2009-10 squad had a cumulative grade point average of 3.45, one of the best team performances in academics.
The Dayton native and 1993 UD graduate should help the program continue to excel with his experience and understanding of today's game. He is a Class A PGA Professional and Head Professional and Director of Operations at Penn Terra Golf Course.
This will be Hoagland's fourth season overall with the Flyers. During the 2008-09 campaign he served as a volunteer assistant on the Flyer men's golf staff.
Prior to UD, Hoagland served as tournament chairman for the Dayton Chapter of the Southern Ohio PGA. In 2005 he was named the Southern Ohio PGA Apprentice of the Year and served as the Apprentice Association Chairman for two years.
In 1993 Hoagland graduated the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
He also served as the Assistant Golf Professional at Penn Terra Golf Course for four years soon after and also worked as a Miami Valley Golf Club Teaching Professional. |
