FORMER FLYER ALVINO SIGNS WITH CZECH CLUB

Oct. 7, 2008

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer program is renowned for its ability to churn out professional soccer players. Former Flyer midfielder Terry Alvino is one of those players to benefit from his training at UD and has enjoyed a solid professional career.

Alvino recently became the second UD men's soccer player to sign a professional contract with a Czech club. He signed a contract with FC Hradec Kralove, a Second League club, on Sept. 29, 2008. He joins former Flyer Lubomir Bogdanov, who signed with the Czech club FC Baník Most in 2008.

In his only season as a Flyer, Alvino was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 after posting six goals and two assists in 2005. He was also named to the 2005 Atlantic 10 All-Championship team after scoring a goal versus Charlotte.

Alvino and Bogdanov played three seasons at Incarnate Wood for current UD head coach Dennis Currier. They helped the Crusaders to three consecutive Division II National Tournament appearances, before following Currier to UD in 2005.

Prior to the 2006 season Alvino was invited to Chicago Fire's training camp and also had a trial with the Richmond (Va.) Kickers. He also played with NZFC's Otago United and American USL First Division side Minnesota Thunder, as well as the Kalamazoo Outrage of the USL Premier Development League.

Four former Flyers under Currier's reign have played professionally in North America and Europe. In addition to Alvino and Bogdanov, Dasan Robinson, who was drafted and signed with the Chicago Fire of the MLS, also was invited to the U.S. National Team tryouts in January. Omar Jarun was drafted by the USL's Atlanta Silverbacks.

UD has seen five players move on from college to the MLS, soccer's highest professional level in North America. Defender Denny Clanton was drafted and signed by the Chicago Fire in 2004. The following year, forward Chris Rolfe was also taken by the Chicago Fire and played with the U.S. National Team. After he was originally selected in the MLS SuperDraft by the now defunct Tampa Bay Mutiny, and spending four seasons in the A-League, 2000 graduate Mark Schulte signed on in 2005 with the Columbus Crew. Michael Nsien worked his way up to the Los Angeles Galaxy Reserves and was promoted to the MLS Roster in September, 2005. The Flyers added more alumni to the MLS, as Dasan Robinson was drafted in the Supplemental Round of the MLS Draft by the Chicago Fire in 2006.
