  • 2009 Dayton Flyer Men's Soccer Schedule

DAYTON, Ohio - Head Coach Dennis Currier announced the University of Dayton men's soccer schedule today. The defending Atlantic 10 Tournament Champion Flyers will play 18 games during the regular season, including nine home matches at Baujan Field. Dayton's schedule also includes four teams that advanced to the 2008 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.

UD, ranked No. 18 in the College Soccer News Preseason National Poll, opens the 2009 campaign as host to the Big East conference's Cincinnati Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. ET under the lights at Baujan Field. The Flyers enjoyed a 9-0 record at Baujan last season and are currently on a 20-game unbeaten streak (17-0-3) on their home turf that dates back to Oct. 28, 2006. Dayton will also host non-conference matches at Baujan Field against Bowling Green (Friday, Sept. 18), SIU-Edwardsville (Friday, Sept. 25) and Alabama A & M (Wednesday, Sept. 30).

Following its home opener, UD embarks on a three-game road swing with back-to-back matches against teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2008. The Flyers play 2008 Summit League Champion and NCAA qualifier Oakland in Pontiac, Mich. on Sunday, Sept. 6 and then fly west to take on Denver, winner of the 2008 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and also an NCAA qualifier, on Friday, Sept. 11. While in the Mountain Time Zone, UD will also take on Air Force on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Dayton will continue its local rivalry with Wright State, playing at the Raiders' Alumni Field on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. ET. The Flyers close the road portion of their non-conference regular season schedule at Canisius (Sunday, Oct. 4).

The Flyers, set to defend their Atlantic 10 title, open the conference slate at home against two squads that advanced to the A-10 Championship in 2008. UD opens Atlantic 10 play against Rhode Island on Friday, Oct. 9 and then hosts Massachusetts on Sunday, Oct. 11. UD edged the Minutemen, 1-0, in the A-10 Championship final, and UMass earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.

UD will then play four consecutive conference road games: St. Bonaventure (Friday, Oct. 16), Duquesne (Sunday, Oct. 18), Richmond (Friday, Oct. 23) and George Washington (Sunday, Oct. 25).

The Flyers close out the regular season with three A-10 matches at Baujan Field. On Halloween weekend, UD hosts Charlotte (Friday, Oct. 30) and NCAA-qualifier Saint Louis (Sunday, Nov. 1). Dayton will then take on Xavier at Baujan Field on Friday, Nov. 6.

The Flyers are vying for their third consecutive bid to the A-10 Men's Soccer Championship, comprised of the top six teams in the conference, which will be hosted by Rhode Island Nov. 12-15. The 51st Annual NCAA Men's College Cup will be held Dec. 11 & 13 in Cary, N.C.

To prepare for the regular season, UD will also play two exhibition matches; at Butler on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. ET and at Kentucky on Monday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. ET.

Dayton is coming off one of its best seasons in history, posting a school-best 15-4-3 record and advancing to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
