DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men’s soccer team (1-9) was topped 1-0 in overtime by the SIUE Cougars (6-2-2) at Baujan Field on Saturday.
With two Flyer goalkeepers sidelined by injury, freshman goalkeeper Chris Najeway made his first career start for Dayton. Najeway made five stops in over 95 minutes of action.
Dayton registered six shots in the game. Senior Amoh Kwaku had one shot on goal.
Both teams battled to a 0-0 tie through the end of regulation. In the 96th minute, SIUE’s leading scorer Jack Twellman intercepted a pass from 25 yards out and laced the ball into the lower right 90 for the game-winning goal.
The match was Dayton’s final non-conference opponent of the season. The Flyers open up A-10 Conference play at home against the La Salle Explorers (2-6-1) on Friday, Oct. 7 at Baujan Field. UD will also host Fordham (4-4-1) on Sunday, Oct. 9.
