FLYER BASEBALL SET FOR FOUR-GAME WEEKEND

Game Notes

DAYTON, Ohio
– Fresh off of a 19-10 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, the University of Dayton baseball team hopes to take its powerful hitting on the road against Wofford, NJIT and South Carolina Upstate in this weekend’s Courtyard by Marriott Baseball Classic in Spartansburg, S.C.

Dayton is led by Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Jimmy Roesinger, who hit .667 in his opening weekend with a pair of doubles, a home run and one stolen base.

Junior transfer Zach Blanchette hit .500 against Army and Wake Forest last weekend. Blanchette leads the team with three doubles and has a .750 slugging percentage.

Sophomore southpaw Cameron Hobson retains the Friday starting duties this week against the Wofford Terriers. The Terriers went 1-2 in their opening weekend against Pitt. They beat the Panthers on the final day in extra innings 9-8. 

Hobson (1.80 ERA) will face left-handed pitcher Pete Noordsy on Friday. Noordsy is 0-1 this season with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.

Wofford is led offensively by Kyle Behrendt, who has a .545 batting average with one RBI.  Landon Bennett is hitting .375 with three RBI.

Freshman RHP Bryce Lahrman will make the first start of his collegiate career on Saturday against NJIT. Lahrman has appeared in one game this season, adding one strikeout in one inning of service. He faces right-handed pitcher Mark Leiter, who is also making his first collegiate start. The Highlanders are opening their season this weekend in the tournament.

After a five-strikeout performance last weekend, right-handed pitcher Burny Mitchem faces the South Carolina Upstate Spartans on Saturday afternoon. Mitchem went 5.0 innings in a loss against Wake Forest last weekend.
 
He faces senior right-handed pitcher Matt Branham. Branham is 0-1 in one start this season, with six strikeouts in five innings pitched.

USC Upstate is 3-2 this season and 2-1 at home. Austin Liput leads the Spartans with a .364 batting average. Tyler Cook is 2-for-2 in stolen bases this season and has the second-highest batting average at .357.

Senior right-handed pitcher Eric Wagner will close out the weekend against Wofford on Sunday. The Terriers have yet to name a starter for the final game of the weekend.
