Brian Blasik hit two home runs on Friday against the UMass Minutemen

DAYTON, Ohio – Seven home runs weren’t enough as the University of Dayton Flyers fell 18-12 to the UMass Minutemen in a slugfest at Time Warner Cable Stadium on Friday.

The Flyers fall to 19-27 and 8-11 in A-10 action, and are still looking to claw their way into the Atlantic 10 tournament in Camden, N.J.

Brian Blasik and Aaron Dunsmore both had a pair of home runs. Blasik completed the day with four RBI, while Dunsmore had three. Josh Jeffery, Zach Jacob and Jimmy Roesinger also homered. Roesinger added a double in a 3-for-5 day for UD.

Left-handed pitcher Cameron Hobson was dealt the loss. Hobson (3-4) allowed 10 earned runs and had five strikeouts. Chris Beesley, Trent Haughn, Mike Hauschild and Tim Corbey each struck out one in relief.

UD clawed back from an early 6-0 deficit to tie the game up, however, the Minutemen tacked on nine runs through the top of the seventh until Dayton could produce again.

Blasik homered to open the bottom half of the seventh, his second of the day. Dunsmore smacked his second of the game two at-bats later. His was a two-run home run to center field. Not to be outdone, Jeffery ripped another two-run blast to close the gap to five, 16-11.

UMass hit a two run home run in the top of the ninth to secure its lead. Despite Roesinger’s best efforts on a solo home run in the bottom half of the ninth, UD’s chance at a comeback was stymied by the Minutemen.

Dayton and UMass square off in game two of a three-game series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
