Junior Chris Lemon added another honor to a season full of accolades on Thursday.

University of Dayton men’s cross country runners Chris and Matt Lemon have been named First Team University Division ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV, it was announced Thursday.

The twins from Bowling Green, Ohio and Toledo St. John’s High School were big parts of one of the best seasons in program history.  The Flyers placed third at the Atlantic 10 championship meet and 13^th at the NCAA Regional meet, their best-ever finishes in both events.

Chris was the 2009 Atlantic 10 Conference individual champion, the 2009 Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year and the 2009-10 UD Presidential Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He is a two-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection.  He is also the UD cross country and track record holder in the 5K, 8K and 10K distances.   

Matt is a three-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree and was named 2009 Academic All-Atlantic 10.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is the first step in selecting this year’s Academic All-America team. Everyone named to the district first teams appears on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America national ballot.

Covering all sports, at least one University of Dayton student-athlete has been named an Academic All-American for 26 straight years.

The District IV teams are made up of student-athletes from Division I-A and I-AA schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
