Mike Hauschild, Bryce Lahrman and Ian Gardeck are a combined 4-0 for the Danbury Westerners of the NECBL

DANBURY, Conn. – University of Dayton freshman right-handed pitcher Bryce Lahrman was named the New England Collegiate Baseball League’s Pitcher of the Week after a 15-strikeout effort in his first start for the Danbury Westerners on June 8.

Lahrman pitched an 11-0 shutout against the Holyoke Blue Sox, striking out 15 of 30 batters faced that day. He will start again on Tuesday for the Westerners.

Lahrman isn’t the only Flyer making waves for the Westerners. All three Flyers assigned to Danbury (Lahrman, Ian Gardeck and Mike Hauschild) have combined for a 4-0 record. The Westerners are 4-2 overall this summer.

Hauschild is 2-0 and has an 0.56 ERA. He pitched a 3-0 shutout in his debut against the Keene SwampBats on June 5. Hauschild allowed one earned run in seven innings of action against the North Adams SteepleCats on June 11. He was named Pitcher of the Night by CollegeSummerBaseball.net, a site dedicated to NCAA-approved summer leagues.

In three appearances, Gardeck has a 1-0 record in addition to one save on the year. He earned the save after Hauschild’s start against North Adams. He followed that performance up with four strikeouts in two innings for an 8-7 win over the Vermont Mountaineers on June 12.

The Flyers finished the 2010 season at 23-32 and 12-15 in the Atlantic 10. UD graduates seven seniors this year. In addition, 18 returners will play in a sanctioned collegiate wood bat league this summer, the most in program history.
