• 2010 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Teams

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton senior defender Tommy Watkins was named to the 2010 preseason men’s soccer All-Conference team, as selected by the league’s head coaches. In addition three Flyer freshmen, Marlon Duran, Victor Duru and Badir Sherman, were picked for the preseason All-Rookie Team.

Named Dayton’s 2009 Defensive Player of the Year, Watkins was a key component of the Flyer defense that posted nine shutouts en route to the 2009 Atlantic 10 regular season title. Dayton finished the 2009 campaign ranked 25th in the NCAA National Ranking Summary in shutout percentage. Watkins, of Richmond, Va., dished out five assists from his defensive back position. He played the third most minutes for the Flyers with 1,750, and is the returning leader in that category.

UD was the only team with three players honored on the preseason All-Rookie Team. Duran, a midfielder from Duncanville, Texas, plays for the U-20 U.S. National Team. Duru, a midfielder from Powder Springs, Ga., was named a Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 prospect. Sherman, of Pelham Manor, N.Y., was selected to the 2009 adidas Elite Soccer Program.

The Flyers open the 2010 season with two exhibition matches at Baujan Field – Butler on Friday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. and Kentucky on Monday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all regular season Flyer games at Baujan Field.
