DAYTON DOMINATES IN 3-0 WIN OVER OWLS

Boxscore

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Dayton women’s soccer team improved to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in Atlantic 10 action with a 3-0 win over Temple Friday afternoon at Ambler Field.

“Temple was not pressuring us much and we played a little too casual in the first half. We finally scored a goal and opened things up a little,” said UD Head Coach Mike Tucker. “During the second half we did some really nice things. Our possession was incredible, we connected passes well and our defense did not allow a shot on goal. That’s impressive. It was a good game overall.”

Dayton outshot the Owls (5-8-1 overall, 0-3-1 A-10) 18-5 and had nine corner kicks, while Temple had none. The Flyer defense did not allow a single shot on goal and the offense scored three goals for the third consecutive game. UD has outscored conference opponents 17-1 after five matches.

Senior Alli Giner got the ball rolling, scoring in the 38th minute on an assist from sophomore Colleen Williams. The 1-0 lead held through the first half.

“We had just moved Alli up top and Colleen played her in behind the defense,” said Tucker. “She kind of walked in and had somewhat of a difficult angle but put it away.”

Williams scored a goal of her own in the 54th minute on an assist from senior Tori Oelschlager. Williams has scored a conference-leading 13 goals this season and also leads the A-10 in points with 33. She has notched a point in 10 consecutive games now.

“Willy’s goal came after a scramble and Tori found her for an open look,” said Tucker. “If she gets a look at goal she’s going to do her job and finish it.”

Freshman Juliana Libertin scored her second goal of the season in the 60th minute set up by junior Emily Kenyon to give the Flyers their final tally.

“Juliana got in wide behind the defense and had a very tough angle,” said Tucker. “Two inches either way she would have missed. She played it perfect.”

The Dayton defense posted its ninth shutout of the season and fourth in A-10 play. Sophomore Katherine Boone got the start in goal to earn her second shutout of the year.

Dayton takes on Saint Joseph’s this Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
