FLYERS POST SEVENTH SHUTOUT OF THE SEASON

Box Score | Jack Pearson's Postgame Comments

DAYTON, Ohio
– The University of Dayton men’s soccer team (6-5-3, 2-1-2 A-10) earned their seventh shutout of the season, defeating the Duquesne Dukes  1-0 on Senior Night at Baujan Field. Junior goalkeeper Tyler Picard matched his career-best posting his seventh shutout of the year.

UD’s win comes just in the nick of time as the Flyers make a push for a berth in the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship in Charlotte in three weeks.

“It’s nice to get two wins back-to-back [Dayton beat Saint Joseph’s last Sunday 2-0],” junior defender Jack Pearson said. “It was good for the boys to get a clean sheet tonight. We’ll enjoy tonight, but we’ll be back to work tomorrow morning to get ready for Sunday.”

Dayton held a slight edge in shots, leading 12-11 in the contest. The Flyers had five on net, while the Dukes placed four on frame. UD also held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks, including the corner that gave the Flyers their lone goal of the night.

Pearson connected on a header in the box after sophomore Ryan Bauer booted the ball in from the corner. His first goal of the season came at a critical juncture in the game at 69:58 to give UD a 1-0 lead.

“I just got in front of the keeper and I was able to put into the back of the net,” Pearson said. “It’s a great win for the team. We have to push forward to get another three points on Sunday and make it a great weekend for us.”

Pearson and the rest of the Dayton defensive core pitched in to preserve Picard’s shutout as the Dukes pressured late in the game.

Dayton closes out its regular season home slate on Sunday at 1 p.m. against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.
