AVCA Top-25 (Week 9)

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Dayton volleyball advanced one spot to No. 17 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll released on Monday. It is the highest ranking for the Flyers during its current 13 consecutive weeks in the poll.

Over the weekend, Dayton (18-3, 9-0 Atlantic 10) swept George Washington and Charlotte to extend the seventh-longest winning streak in the nation to 13 matches.

The Flyers spent the last two weeks ranked No. 18 and started the season at No. 21. Prior to its current 13-week stand in the polls, which started Nov. 23 of last season, Flyer volleyball had been ranked in the top 25 for a combined 15 weeks. Dayton’s highest position in the AVCA Top-25 is No. 12 during the week of Oct. 15, 2007.

Florida (18-1) received 44 of the 60 first-place votes, up from 29 last week, to remain the poll’s highest ranked team. Five teams receiving votes in this week’s poll have played Dayton this season, including top 10 teams No. 2 Nebraska and No. 6 Illinois.

The Flyers host Xavier at the Frericks Center this Friday at 7 p.m. ET. The series has seen three straight five-set matches, including a Flyer road win on Oct. 15 in which all sets were decided by two points. On Sunday Dayton travels to Washington, D.C., to face George Washington at 1 p.m.
