WRIGHT NAMED ATLANTIC 10 CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Chris Wright leads UD in eight categories, including scoring, rebunding and dunks.

University of Dayton senior forward Chris Wright was named the Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week for his play during the week ending January 2.

Wright averaged a double-double with 15.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in leading Dayton to two big non-conference wins over top teams in the Colonial Athletic Association and the Mountain West Conference.  The Flyers trailed at halftime in both games and Wright led both comebacks by scoring 25 of his 30 points on the week after halftime.

The senior forward scored all 13 of his points against George Mason in the second half as the Flyers went on to win 73-67.  Wright tallied 12 points and nine rebounds in the double overtime, come-from-behind victory over New Mexico on Saturday.  The Trotwood, Ohio native finished the New Mexico game with 17 points and 14 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year.

He shared the honor with Charlotte’s Javarris Barnett.

Wright leads Dayton in scoring (13.7), rebounding (8.9), blocked shots (18), field goals made (76), free throws made (51), steals (16), dunks (21) and double-doubles (6).

He has been named to the preseason watch lists for the 2010-11 Naismith Trophy, 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award and John Wooden Award.

Dayton is 12-3, and has won its last five games.  UD will begin its 16th season in the Atlantic 10 Conference with three out of four games on the road.  The Flyers play at Saint Louis on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
