RICHMOND, Va. –
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team gutted out a 66-55 Atlantic 10 victory at Richmond Saturday night at the Robins Center.

Eleven different Flyers scored led by senior Kristin Daugherty’s double-double of 19 points (with the help of shooting 11-of-11 from the free throw line) and 10 rebounds. Junior Patrice Lalor added 13 points.

UD shot a season-high 93.5 percent from the free throw line (29-of-31) while the Spiders shot just 55 percent (11-of-20) in a game that saw 50 fouls called (27 against UR and 23 against UD). Dayton also dominated the boards 51-37, paced by Daugherty’s 10, while Justine Raterman chipped in nine.

Then they went cold. The Flyers went on an eight-minute scoring drought. Elle Queen’s layup at the 13:51 mark gave UD a 14-6 lead and they didn’t score a field goal again until Kristin Daugherty’s layup with 5:45 left in the half to give UD a 17-14 lead.

Back-to-back steals helped the Spiders take a five-point lead, 22-17, at the 3:52 mark.

Dayton used a 17-3 run to close out the half and take a 34-25 lead into the lockerroom. The Flyers hit 3-of-4 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free throw in that stretch, including Cassie Sant’s with 19 seconds on the clock to give UD its largest lead of the half, 34-22. Richmond’s Sam Bilney hit a three with five seconds on the clock to cut the UD lead to single digits.

Richmond used a 12-0 run to start the second half and Crystal Goring’s layup at 14:50 gave the Spiders a 35-34 lead.

Olivia Applewhite finally got Dayton on the board, scoring the Flyers’ first points of the second half six minutes in, with an and-one to tie the game at 37-all.

A couple of Kristin Daugherty free throws gave UD a 43-41 lead with 10:52 to play and the Flyers held on to it for good. The game concluded on two Kristin Daugherty free throws and Dayton’s biggest lead of night, 66-55, with 32 seconds left in the game.

The Flyers continue Atlantic 10 play when they host La Salle Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. ET at UD Arena.
