DAYTON FINISHES STRONG AT FINDLAY CLASSIC

- The University of Dayton women’s track and field team continued its production on the second day of the Findlay Classic, winning five additional events and placing among the top three in nine total events on Saturday.

“I’m happy how the team performed this weekend,” UD Head Track and Field Coach Adam Steinwachs said. “We are right where we should be with three weeks until the conference championships.”

All-American senior Mallory Barnes continued her dominance in throwing events, capturing first in the shot put with a distance of 46-08.25. Senior Johnna Zaccari finished second in the shot put with a length of 45-10.50.

Senior Liz Coorey took first in the 3000 meter run pacing the pack with a time of  9:53.36. Sophomore Taylor Beyerle was second with a time of 10:19.42. Freshman Sarah Reynolds was seventh finishing in 10:46.80.

For the third consecutive week, senior Maureen Bulgrin took first in an individual race. Bulgrin ran a 5-minute mile (5:00.8) and was followed closely by junior Emily Zimmerman who finished one second later (5:01.71) for second.

Junior Rachel Weber took first in the 400 meter dash (59.73). Freshman Kassy Thomas was also first in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:20.78.

Dayton had three finish in the top five for the 800 meter run. Senior Ashley Cattran had a time of 2:14.07.  Freshman Nicole Cargill (2:21.44) was a fourth and freshman Paige Mason was fifth (2:25.56).

Flyer freshmen were strong in the high jump. Brittany Reid placed second with a height of 5-03.00, while Juliana Lawniczak cleared 5-01.00.

Juniors Jada Henderson (25.79) took second in the 200 meter dash, and Kelly Johnston (3:02.77) was second in the 200 meter dash.

After a record-setting performance on Friday, sophomore Katie Nageotte was fourth in the 60 meter dash (7.93). Cassie Grandstaff (7.95 - 6th),  Henderson (8.03 - 7th) and Mercedes Carey (8.08 - 8th) also finished in the Top 10 in the finals.

The Flyers have one meet remaining before the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in Kingston, R.I. on Feb. 18 and 19. UD will compete in the Akron Invitational on Feb. 12 in its final tune-up before the championships.
