COLD SECOND HALF HALTS FLYERS 67-53 AT RHODE ISLAND

KINGSTON, R.I.
– Paul Williams scored 12 points as the University of Dayton Flyers fell 67-53 on the road against the Rhode Island Rams.

The Flyers dropped to 17-8 overall and 5-5 in the Atlantic 10.

Dayton struggled from the field in the second half shooting just 33 percent from the field and committed 10 turnovers.

Wearing the black uniforms for the first time this season, Dayton had an initial spark leading 29-22 in the first 20 minutes of play. The Flyers used a 21-0 run to jump out to the lead thanks to 22 first half rebounds with seven of them on the offensive end.

However, that lead evaporated in a hurry after a Rhode Island went on a 14-2 run to open the second half and added an 8-1 scoring stretch to go up 44-36.

Rhode Island controlled the glass out-rebounding Dayton 40-35. The Rams also shot 41 percent from the floor and had 28 points off of turnovers.

Matt Kavanaugh chipped in with six points and six rebounds, while Luke Fabrizius scored eight. Chris Wright finished with nine points, four rebounds and two blocks.

The Flyers return home to face the Temple Owls on Saturday, Feb. 12 with tipoff at 1 p.m. ET.
