DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton baseball lost to Xaiver, 6-2, on Saturday in game two of a three-game series at Woerner Field at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

Dayton falls to 26-20 and 11-6 in the Atlantic 10 as Xavier improves to 24-21 and 9-8 in league play.

The Flyers jumped on the Musketeers early with two runs on the first seven pitches from Xavier starter Tyler Koors. Junior Brian Blasik led off the game with a single and advanced to third after stealing second and advancing on a groundout. Junior C.J. Gillman drove in Blasik with a single to center field. Senior Danny Welch then drove in Gillman on a deep fly ball to center to give UD a 2-0 lead.

But Koors (4-4) pitched eight scoreless innings after the first, including a string of 15-consecutive outs, to earn the win in a 90-pitch complete game. Koors finished with seven strikeouts, allowing a walk and two runs. Two Xavier homeruns proved to be enough run support for the win as Seth Willoughby and Patrick Paligraf went yard to left field.

Junior Cameron Hobson (4-6) started for the Flyers and pitched 6 1/3 innings with three strikeouts to suffer his first home loss of the season.

Saturday ended a string of four consecutive complete-games from Dayton starters. In the seventh inning Dayton made a pitching change for the first time since April 24, bringing in junior Tim Bury from the bullpen. Bury pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on a two-run homerun. Senior Tim Corbey threw a scoreless inning out of the Dayton bullpen with one strikeout.

Welch notched a double – which snapped a string of 15 consecutive Dayton batters retired in order – to finish 1-for-4 with an RBI. Gillman went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Xavier leadoff man, John McCambridge, went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

Dayton and Xavier will conclude its three-game conference series tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET.
