Box Score

CAMDEN, N.J. – Fifth-seeded Richmond defeated third-seeded Dayton, 10-3, to eliminate the Flyers from the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship on Friday afternoon at Campbell’s Field.

Richmond (28-26-2) never surrendered an early lead after scoring six runs in the first inning. Senior Tim Corbey (1-1) made his first start of the season – and fourth of his career – against the Spiders. Corbey allowed the six runs in the first to eventually earn credit for the loss.

After retiring Richmond’s leadoff batter, Corbey allowed two consecutive walks, two singles consecutive singles, a triple and a homerun. Richmond catcher Chris Cowell hit a bases loaded three-run triple in the first, followed by a two-run homerun from Bret Williams.

Dayton (32-27) responded with a run in the second inning and two in the seventh, but the six-run deficit proved to be insurmountable for the Flyers.

Senior Jimmy Roesinger ended his career as a Flyer with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with one run scored. Junior Mike Coughlin went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Four Flyers were used in relief on the mound. Senior Tim Lynn pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out three. Senior Willy Balbach closed out the game for the Flyers on the mound. After entering the eighth inning with one inherited runner and no outs, Balbach retired the next three batters.

Junior Brian Blasik stole his 23rd base of the season to tie a single-season program record held by Jake Long (1999). Junior C.J. Gillman stole his 22nd base of the season – third on UD’s single-season steals list. Blasik and Gillman are the only teammates in Dayton history to record over 20 stolen bases in the same season.

Richmond starter Matt Trent (2-4) pitched a complete-game, allowing three runs and striking out six. Chris Cowell finished 3-for-4 with four RBI for the Spiders.

The Flyers end the season with a 32-27 record – the fifth 30-win season in the last seven years. Despite Friday’s loss, Dayton tied a program-best two wins in the A-10 Baseball Championship this week.
