DAYTON SWEEPS GW FOR 15TH CONSECUTIVE WIN

DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton volleyball swept George Washington on Saturday night at the Frericks Center to improve to 11-0 in league play after winning its 15th consecutive match.

The Colonials, who entered the weekend tied for third place in the Atlantic 10, fall to 17-8 and 6-5 in league play. At 19-5, Dayton is one win away from the program’s 11th consecutive 20-win season. UD now has 36 consecutive victories against A-10 opponents.

Junior outside hitter Rachel Krabacher led the Flyers on Saturday night with 14 kills on a .300 hitting percentage. The Flyers out-blocked GW 15.5-to-3.0 as Megan Campbell teamed up for a career-high 10 block assists.

Miss October
The Flyers have now gone undefeated in October in back-to-back seasons. Since 2007 the Flyers are 42-4 in October and have not lost at home in Autumn’s month since Oct. 15, 1999.
George Washington contested the first set by forcing extra points before losing to UD 26-24. Senior Yvonne Marten had four of her nine kills in the first, which featured 19 ties and six lead changes.

Both teams played it close to a 13-13 tie in the second set until the Flyers pulled away with a 4-0 run. Campbell recorded one of Dayton’s six aces during the four-point run, which turned out to be a turning point in the match. UD finished the second stanza on a 12-6 run and came out with a dominating performance in the third set, 25-10. In the final set, GW surrendered a combined 13 points on attacking or service errors.

The Flyer defense held George Washington to a .028 hitting percentage for the match. During UD’s current 15-match winning streak, opponents have a .074 hitting percentage to Dayton’s .351 clip. 

Dayton will continue Atlantic 10 play next weekend with a rematch against Xavier in Cincinnati on Friday before returning to the Frericks Center next Sunday for Senior Day against Fordham.
