TRACK IN THE LEAD AFTER DAY ONE AT THE A-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day One Results

KINGSTON, R.I.
– The University of Dayton women’s track and field team is in first place after the first day of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships. Dayton leads the pack with 67 points, Duquesne is in second with 27.50 points and Rhode Island is third with 26.50 points.

“Today we had probably some of the best performances I have seen this season. The ladies put everything out there and laid it on the line. It was great to see,” University of Dayton Head Track And Field Coach Jason Francis said. “We are fortunate to have a number of competitors in the finals tomorrow. We need to keep getting after it,” Francis said.

Sophomore Hilary Lang snapped the school’s pentathlon record with a score of 3,418 which is 10 points better than alum Amy Kremer’s 3,408 points. Lang came in second in the event and also set a new record at UD for the long jump with a mark of 18-05.25. That distance tops her previous best by over four inches. Each of the pentathletes scored new personal records as sophomore Erin Baldinger took fifth (3,134) and freshman Katy Garcia finished eighth (3,124). Garcia’s mark also moves her into fifth all-time at UD in the pentathlon.

Overall, 13 student-athletes including Lang set new personal records. In addition, Dayton dominated the podium in the pole vault with all three vaulters finishing at the top of the Atlantic 10. UD also earned podium finishes in the weight throw (first) and the 5000 meter run (second).

Sophomore Aly Weeman set a new personal record and had the school’s third-best weight throw mark ever. Weeman’s throw of 57-07.50 (17.56m) edged Rhode Island’s Genevieve Rybicki by just over a foot. Sophomore Samm Hortsman (51-08.50 – 15.76m) and freshman Miranda Nelson (51-03.50 – 15.63m) each scored new personal records in the weight throw, finishing sixth and eighth respectively.

Senior Courtney Siebenaller placed first in the pole vault for the third time in her career. Siebenaller paced the pack with the top mark of 12-05.50 (3.80m). Sophomore Hanna Krizmanic was second with a mark of 12-01.50 (3.70m) and sophomore Katrina Steinhauser placed third with a height of 11-09.75 (3.60m).

Senior Elissa Mason finished second in the 5k, passing Emily Zimmerman for second on the all-time list. Mason clocked in with a new personal record time of 17:05.30. Senior Lindsey Cummings placed 10th improving to fifth all-time with a time of 17:41.80. Junior Marisa Slomski also set a new personal record with a time of 17:59.73.

Sophomore Maddi Schmidt posted Dayton’s second-ever sub-nine second time in the 60 meter hurdles. Schmidt clocked in at 8.93 to climb to second all-time at UD. Freshman Rabecca Maj finished eighth with a time of 9.02 , which is the third best time UD history. Schmidt and Maj both qualified for the finals on Saturday.

In the 500 meters freshman Kelsey McDonald traded spots with sophomore Kassy Thomas on the all-time list. McDonald’s personal-record time of 1:17.07 is fourth all-time and Thomas’ personal-record time of 1:17.10 is fifth all-time. Both qualified for the finals on Saturday.

The two-time defending Atlantic 10 Indoor Champion Dayton Flyers resume action on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the women’s high jump. The awards ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Mackal Field House on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.




60 Meter Dash
Sophomore Cassie Grandstaff finished 12th with a time of 7.96.

60 Meter Hurdle Prelims
Sophomore Maddi Schmidt posted Dayton’s second-ever sub-nine second time in the 60 meter hurdles. Schmidt clocked in at 8.93 to climb to second all-time at UD. Freshman Rabecca Maj finished eighth with a time of 9.02 , which is the third best time UD history. Schmidt and Maj both qualified for the finals on Saturday.

200 Meter Dash
Sophomore Cassie Grandstaff placed 14th with a time of 26.03.

400 Meter Dash
Freshman Maya Pedersen had a time of 59.24. Senior Rachel Weber finished in 59.25.

500 Meter Dash

In the 500 meters freshman Kelsey McDonald traded spots with sophomore Kassy Thomas on the all-time list. McDonald’s personal-record time of 1:17.07 is fourth all-time and Thomas’ personal-record time of 1:17.10 is fifth all-time. Both qualified for the finals on Saturday.

800 Meter Run
Sophomore Nicole Cargill finished 11th with a time of 2:17.16.

1000 Meter Run
Senior Kelly Johnston finished sixth with a time of 3:00.77. In doing so, she qualified for the 1,000 meter finals on Saturday.

5000 Meter Run

Weight Throw

Women’s DMR
Dayton’s DMR team consisting of sophomore Nicole Cargill, senior Rachel Weber, sophomore Lizzie Gleason and freshman Katie Ollier finished seventh with a time of 12:03.00. Their time was the best DMR time of the year for UD.
