CINCINNATI -Kevin Dillard scored 20 points and Chris Johnson and Paul Williams each added 18 as the University of Dayton Flyers fell in overtime 86-83 to the Xavier Musketeers.

Matt Kavanaugh recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds as Dayton dropped to 16-10 overall and 6-6 in the Atlantic 10.

In a game that saw 10 ties and 11 lead changes, the Flyers went into the locker room with a five-point lead, 37-32.

Xavier opened the second half on a 15-4 run to take a six-point advantage. A steal and dunk by Chris Johnson stopped the Musketeer run and cut the deficit down 49-45 with 13:07 left. Each team jostled for position and after Johnson knocked down his second three-point basket, the game was locked up at 71. A three-point play by Tu Holloway put Xavier up by two with just 11 seconds remaining. But Dillard answered with the game-tying layup with less than two seconds to send the game into overtime.

Xavier junior guard Mark Lyons opened the extra period with a bucket to give the Musketeers the  lead for good the game, added another and then Holloway took over, scoring XU’s last seven points. The Flyers cut the lead to one with a Fabrizius three (84-83) with 13 seconds to go, but a pair of clutch free throws from Holloway sealed the game. 

Dillard got off a three under five seconds left, but Holloway came down with the rebound.  His 32 points led all scorers.

The Flyers wrap up their two-game road swing on Wednesday, Feb. 22 against the Duquesne Dukes. Tip is at 7 p.m. ET.
