Dayton Flyers

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton junior outfielder Kathleen Maloof was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, while freshman pitcher Kayla English was named Co-Pitcher of the Week and freshman pinch hitter Tiffany Ricks was honored as the conference’s Rookie of the Week.

Maloof, an Indianapolis, Ind. native, helped the Flyers to a 3-2 record at the Subway Spartan Classic with wins against Appalachian State, North Carolina Central and previously unbeaten USC Upstate. She batted .429 (6-for-14) over the weekend, with a home run, a double and four RBI. She also scored six runs and picked up base-hits in four of the five games.

English, a freshman from Grapevine, Texas, posted a record of 1-for-1 in the circle over the weekend in matchups against Appalachian State and USC Upstate. English earned her first collegiate victory with a complete game win against USC Upstate. For the week, she pitched two complete games while allowing five runs on 14 hits in 13 innings pitched. She also recorded seven strikeouts while walking only one. Temple’s Brooklin White shared co-pitcher of the week honors with English.

Ricks, a freshman from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, went 4-for-4 over the weekend including hitting pinch-hit home runs against Appalachian State and USC Upstate that proved to be the difference in both of UD’s wins on Saturday. Overall, Ricks batted 1.000 (4—for-4) with two home runs, six RBI and three runs scored for the weekend.

Dayton resumes action on Wednesday at Morehead State at 2 p.m. ET. The Flyers will play a doubleheader against the Eagles.
