VOSSLER NAMED PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sept. 1, 2008
University of Dayton senior defensive end Scott Vossler has been named Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Flyers to a 31-12 season opening win over Central State in CSU's "Dayton Classic IV" Sunday at Welcome Stadium. Vossler, a 2004 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School in St. Marys, Ohio, had six solo tackles (seven total), three sacks and fell on a fumble in the end zone for the final Flyer touchdown. He also blocked a PAT and had a quarterback hurry. He led a Dayton defense that held CSU to 14 yards net rushing. The 2008 Flyer co-captain picked up where he left off a year ago when he led UD, was second in the PFL and 14th nationally with 9.5 sacks. He was First Team All-PFL and First Team Sports Network FCS Mid-Major All-America. Dayton is the only PFL team receiving votes in both FCS national polls this week. The Flyers received three votes in both the Sports Network media poll and the FCS Coaches poll. After an open date this Saturday, Dayton hosts defending Patriot League champion and 2007 FCS playoff team Fordham on Saturday, September 13. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. ET. |
