CHAPPELL MAKES THE CUT AT THE 2008 U.S. AMATEUR



Rob Chappell advances to Match Play shooting four over par in the first two rounds

PINEHURST, N.C. - Senior Rob Chappell made the cut by one stroke at the 2008 U.S. Amateur Open and will head into match play starting Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Chappell shot a four-over 74 on Pinehurst No. 2 to finish the second round tied for 42nd overall. After shooting even par in round one, Chappell opened the second round with two bogeys and a double bogey in his first six holes.

The Cincinnati native had another bogey on 14, but bounced back with birdies on 15 and 17 before closing out the round with a bogey on 18.

    Chappell did just enough to make the cut and is ranked No. 57 out of the final 64 golfers at the 108th amateur championship. He tees off on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 8:30 a.m. ET.

    Meanwhile sophomore Zach Glassman rebounded from a tough first day to shoot an even par 70 in round two.

    Glassman, who fired a 78 in round one, nailed in first three birides of the tournament and netted 13 pars in the second round.

    Match play begins on Wednesday and continues until the 36-hole final on Sunday, August 24. The tournament will be played on Pinehurst courses No. 2 and No. 4.

    Chappell is a First Team, All-Atlantic 10 selection and the 2008 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. Glassman helped the Flyers to a second place finish in the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship and finished his freshman season averaging 74.8 strokes per round.
