The University of Dayton men's and women's cross country teams continued their recent string of success at the Flyer 5K, each taking third place at the team's lone home meet of the season. Both programs placed two individual runners in the top ten on Saturday morning at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering, OH.

Scoring was split between two different divisions. In both the men's and women's college division, Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg, and Rio Grande took first, second, and third, respectively.

In the Division I event MU swept both team titles, with the men scoring 33 and the women finishing with 28 points. Miami's Pat Sovacool took the individual men's title (15:22) for the second consecutive year, while fellow RedHawk Laura Neufarth clocked in at 18:15 to take first in the women's competition.

Dayton's men scored an 86 to finish third behind MU and the University of Cincinnati, with the duo of sophomore Chris Lemon and redshirt junior Mike Andersen taking fifth and sixth place at the meet.

Lemon paced the Flyers for the first time in his career, and reached the finish line in 15:41. Andersen, who finished second in last year's race, ran a strong last leg to take sixth place overall with a time of 15:42.

Rounding out the top five for Dayton were sophomores Matt Lemon (15:53) and Cory McGoldrick (16:16), as well as redshirt senior Billy Przybyla (16:21).

Running in defense for the Flyers, sophomore Ryan Shirley (16:34) and senior Tim Kaelin (16:38) came in sixth and seventh for the Flyers.

The women's meet followed directly after the men's, and the Flyers grabbed third in that event as well.

Sophomore Liz Coorey led the team and finished eighth overall in a time of 18:45, while classmate Maureen Bulgrin took tenth in 18:52.

Sophomore Brigitte Sherman also scored for the Flyers and grabbed 14th overall with a time of 19:11. Just behind Sherman was junior Alex Miles, who came across the line in 19:34 to finish 24th.

After the top four finishers, three freshmen crossed the line next. Emily Zimmerman was the last scorer for the team, as the rookie placed 28th overall with a time of 19:46.

Elissa Mason (19:47) and Lindsey Cummings (19:50) were able to turn in defensive scores for the Flyers and placed 29th and 30th respectively.

The women's cross country team will next be in action at the Queen City Invitational on Sept. 6, while the men will take a breather until Sept. 19 when they will compete at the National Catholic Invitational.
