FLYER PLAYER BLOG - ANNE OLTMAN
Sept. 2, 2008
Coming off of two second place finishes at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Indoor and Outdoor Championships, the Dayton Flyers are back and looking to capitalize on last season's success. Senior captain Anne Oltman describes the first week back on campus, giving Flyer fans an in-depth look on the team's goals and objecties during the 2008-09 campaign.
By Anne Oltman There really was no reason to be nervous because I was very prepared from my summer training and the support of my teammates and coach is extremely helpful. The first day of practice was a time trial. We had to run 2400 meters on the track in under nine minutes. This turned out to be a very successful day for everyone because we really worked together and pushed one another. Compared to last year the times were much faster than the year before. I think that made us realize that if we continue to work hard we could surprise many people at our future meets. Later that week we made long and short term goals for the season. This year we hung them up in our locker room to remind us everyday at practice what we are working towards. The first chance we had to accomplish any of these was at the Flyer 5K. As a team we hit every one of the goals we set for ourselves. I thought this was a great way to open the season because we showed ourselves we are capable having the best season we ever have. I am truly looking forward to see what this team can accomplish over the next couple of months. |
