One week after kicking off the cross country season with a third place finish at the Flyer 5K, the women's cross country team one-upped themselves on Saturday morning as the squad continued its strong start to the 2008 season by taking second at the Queen City Invitational in West Chester, Oh.

Led by a trio of sophomores, the Flyers out-ran 10 teams at the 5K event and, in doing so, placed four individuals in the top ten.

Second year runners Liz Coorey and Maureen Bulgrin were the Flyers' top two finishers for the second straight event, but flip-flopped positions with each other after both posted times under the 19-minute mark.

Bulgrin, who finished third overall, improved on her time from last week by nearly ten seconds (18:43). Coorey, who led the team at the Flyer 5K, also shaved some time and ran at an 18:44 clip to take fifth overall.

Another sophomore, Brigitte Sherman, clocked in at 19:03 to claim eighth, while senior Ellen Nienhaus crossed the tape in 19:04 to round out the Flyers' portion of the top ten.

Also scoring for the team was senior Jacqueline Jaworek, who placed 13th overall in a time of 19:14.

Junior Alex Miles (14th place, 19:18) and freshman Lindsey Cummings (15th place, 19:22) ran in defense for the Flyers.

Next up for both cross country programs will be the National Catholic Invitational on Sept. 19 in South Bend, Ind. Senior Mike Andersen will be defending his individual title from last year's event, which he won in school record time.
