WASHINGTON, DC - A second-half surge from the home team proved to be too much for the Flyers as Dayton fell to George Washington, 75-64, in Atlantic 10 Conference women's basketball action on Friday at the Charles E. Smith Center.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Dayton (9-4, 1-1 A-10) while George Washington (8-4, 1-0 A-10) won its conference opener and improved to 20-0 all-time against UD.

Cara Wright led all players with season-high 25 points and 14 rebounds for her A-10 leading seventh double-double of the season. She connected on 10-of-18 shots from the field to go along with two blocks and a steal while recording the highest scoring output by any Flyer this season.

Jennifer Strong added 15 points of her own for Dayton which connected on nearly 40 percent (23-of-58) shots from the field. She also dished out three assists as one of four Flyers with at least three helpers.

Angela Cape led UD with four assists while Strong, Terri Ramsey and Karah Cloxton added three each while Dayton had assists on 15 of its 23 baskets on the night.

The Flyers played even with the Colonials for the first 20 minutes and went into the locker room at halftime tied 34-34. Wright led all players with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field while pulling down six rebounds in a first half that saw four ties and five lead changes.

UD forced 10 GW turnovers and held a 10-2 advantage in points off mistakes. Lund also drained all three shots from the field, including two from long range, for eight first-half points while the duo of Cape and Ramsey dished out three assists apiece in a first half that saw both sides shoot above 40 percent primarily against zone defenses.

With the score tied at 38-all in the second half, the Colonials went on an 8-0 run to build a 46-38 advantage over the next two minutes. Strong and Cloxton led the Flyers back into the game with an 11-0 run of their own for a 49-46 UD lead at the 10:49 mark. Strong tallied six and Cloxton added four during the three-minute stretch that gave UD its first lead of the second half.

The teams traded baskets for the next few minutes until a 10-0 GW run at the eight minute mark put the home team ahead 64-54 just two minutes later. A driving layup by Ramsey stopped the bleeding at the 5:04 mark and from there Wright went to work to bring Dayton within six at 68-62 after three straight layups. However, the Colonials went 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch to clinch a 75-64 victory.

Dayton returns home to face Saint Louis on Sunday for its third Atlantic 10 Conference game in five days. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at UD Arena.
