BASKETBALL SEASON BEGINS WITH FLYER MADNESS ON OCTOBER 13

Oct. 13, 2006

The Flyer Faithful will get its first look at the 2006-07 editions of the University of Dayton men's and women's basketball teams at UD's annual Flyer Madness on Friday, October 13.

Flyer Madness, which is free and open to the public, will start at 10:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Frericks Center. An autograph session with both teams will begin at 9:00 p.m. EDT. Student voucher distribution will begin at 8:30 p.m. EDT.

It promises to be a big night for Flyer athletic teams, as both the UD volleyball and women's soccer teams have important Atlantic 10 matches earlier in the evening. Volleyball hosts Rhode Island in the Frericks Center at 6:00 p.m. EDT, and women's soccer plays Duquesne at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Baujan Field.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited and organizers expect a large group of students. Parking will be available in P Lot in front of the Frericks Center and Baujan Field. Fans that arrive for the volleyball match will be permitted to remain in Frericks Center, but will be asked to move to the upper portions of the stands on either side of the gym while the floor is being converted from its volleyball setup to basketball.

Both teams return a week later to strut their stuff in "game competition" with a pair of scrimmages starting at noon Saturday, Oct. 21, in UD Arena. Both scrimmages are also free and open to the public.

The women tip off at 12 Noon EDT while the men tip off at 2:00 p.m. EDT. Both teams will conduct autograph sessions on the concourse. Please check www.DaytonFlyers.com prior to the event for autograph times.

Doors open at 11:00 a.m. EDT and the athletics department will conduct tours of UD Arena until 1:30 p.m. EDT. Fans will be able to access the Donoher Center, Time Warner Cable Flight Deck and the Boesch Lounge. Fans won't need to fret missing other sporting events that day as they will be shown on television monitors throughout the Arena. The WHIO Radio broadcast of UD's football game at Davidson will be piped into the East and West wings.

For more information and updates on the schedule of both events, visit www.DaytonFlyers.com or call 937-229-4433.
