DAYTON, Ohio - The Cornell Big Red moved to 6-4 on the season when they defeated Texas A&M - Corpus Christi 66-40 in the consolation game of the Dayton Flyer Classic on Sunday at UD Arena. Leading the way for the Big Red was Moina Snyder with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Also putting together a double-double was Jeomi Maduka, who added 13 points and 13 boards of her own.

The Big Red were a rebounding machine pulling down 59 boards to the Islanders 34. They would combine to go 24-for-61 from the field en route to the victory. The Islanders fell to 3-10 going 16-for-61 from the field and combining for 40 points.

"They were more physical than us on the boards and wanted the ball more. When you shoot 26-percent in the game there are going to be a lot of rebounds to be had," said Texas A&M -- Corpus Christi's head coach Robert Robinson.

Cornell jumped out to an early 7-0 start against the Islanders and never looked back in the first half. Leading the charge for the Big Red was Kayleen Fitzsimmons. The junior guard went 3-for-4 on her first four three point shots. The Islanders would try to keep it close in the first half with nine points from Mercedes Cooper, but Cornell took a 16 point lead into the half 34-18.

The Big Red and Islanders exchanged a flurry of offense to get the ball rolling in the second half. Leading the second half charge for Cornell was forward Jeomi Maduka. In the first 10 minutes of action Maduka put up seven points and seven rebounds before exiting the game with foul trouble.

"I was very pleased with our effort today and the play of our post players, and our effort in rebounding. I think it was a great team effort and I liked our intensity and execution on the defensive end," said Cornell's coach Dayna Smith.

Cornell's Moina Snyder would take charge draining three of the next four buckets for the Big Red. From then on it would be smooth sailing for Cornell as they cruised the rest of the way for a 66-40 win.
