DAYTON SUFFERS 78-57 LOSS TO NATIONALLY-RANKED XAVIER

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's basketball team was outscored 78-57 by the No. 21/19 Xavier Musketeers in a nationally-televised game Sunday afternoon at the Cintas Center.

With the win, XU (22-4, 10-0) remains undefeated in Atlantic 10 Conference play as the team also picked up its 13th-straight victory. The Flyers fell to 15-11 overall and 4-6 in the league with the loss.

Junior Kendel Ross led UD in scoring with 17 points, while sophomore Kristin Daugherty tallied 13.

Dayton led twice in the game, but the Musketeers pulled away in the second after shooting an impressive 60 percent from beyond the arc. XU finished 27-of-57 from the floor and a nearly perfect 15-of-16 from the line for the game.

The Muskies were led by four players in double figures including a game-high 19 points from Ta'Shia Phillips. Phillips went a spotless 7-of-7 from the charity stripe and finished 6-of-11 from the field. She also grabbed a game-high 12 boards in the win.

XU held an edge in rebounding (40-32), assists (17-11) and blocks (5-2). However, Dayton finished with a game-high in steals, 7-2.

Dayton opened the scoring with a bucket from Casey Nance and a trey from Kristin Daugherty. However, it wasn't long before Xavier would get into the game as Ta'Shia Phillips netted a jumper at 18:01.

UD would have the advantage until Dee Dee Jerrigan tied it up, 10-10, with a shot from beyond the arc. She then gave XU its first lead of the game with a lay-up on the next time down the court.

Kayla Moses connected on two throws to knot the score up again, 12-12. But, Jerrigan would keep up the pace and make good on two consecutive shots to give the Muskies a four point lead (16-12) with 11:57 remaining

Dayton went without a field goal for nearly six minutes until Kendel Ross scored six-straight points to pull within one of Xavier, 18-17.

Both teams remained scoreless for nearly four minutes until Jerrigan sank a three-pointer to push the lead 23-19 with 4:46 left to play in the half.

Marie Rosche tallied two after a post move under the basket and Nance would net a shot from underneath, but UD would still trail at the intermission, 29-25.

Back-to-back trey's from Ross and Raterman gave UD a 31-29 lead nearly a minute into the second stanza. Nance would add to the spark with a basket of her own as the three combined for a 6-0 spurt in two and half minutes.

XU would answer back on a 7-0 run of its own solely behind Special Jennings who scored seven points in nearly a minute to edge the lead 41-36.

Xavier kept up the momentum and continued to light it up from three-point range connecting on 6-of-10 shots from beyond the arc in the second half alone. The Muskies pulled away on solid shooting eventually winning 78-57.
