FLYERS WIN THE DAYTON MARIOTT CLASSIC WITH A 105-42 VICTORY OVER EASTERN ILLINOIS

The University of Dayton women’s basketball team won the Dayton Flyer Marriott Classic with a dominant 105-42 victory over the Eastern Illinois Panthers Sunday afternoon at UD Arena. The No. 24/25-ranked Flyers improved their record to 6-0. Eastern Illinois dropped to 2-3.
Freshman Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova led five Flyers in double-figures with a career-high 21 points on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting. Tournament MVP Sophomore Ally Malott added a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Sam Mackay chipped in a complete game of 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, six rebounds and five assists. Freshman Amber Deane tallied 12 points, a career-high seven assists and five rebounds. Sophomore Andrea Hoover was the other Flyer in double-figures with 10 points and five assists. Freshman Kelley Austria also had a career-high six assists to go along with seven points.
Malott was joined on the Dayton Marriott Classic All-Tournament Team by Cornelie-Sigmundova and Austria.
UD led throughout the entire game and scored a season-high for points in a half with 56 points in the first half. UD shot an outstanding 67.2% (45-of-67) from the field, including 80% (24-of-30) in the first half. The Flyers owned the glass, outrebounding Eastern Illinois 48-25. UD also had 46 bench points and outscored the Panthers 60-16 in the paint. The Flyers had 33 assists on 45 baskets.
The 63-point victory for the Flyers ranks as seventh largest margin of victory in the program’s history and the largest since UD became a Division I program. The Flyers topped 90 points for the third time in  this season’s six games. They topped 90 points three times all of last season.
This is the first time UD has topped 100 points this season and first since they defeated Harvard 101-80 back on December 30, 2010. The 105 points scored ranks tied for 11th in program history and is the most in a regulation game since the program became Division I in 1984-85. The program record is 112 points vs. Capital on January 23, 1978.
Dayton is back in action on Wednesday Nov. 28 as they head across town to take on Wright State. Tip-off from the Nutter Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
