DAUGHERTY SCORES AS FLYERS SOAR IN 71-49 VICTORY OVER LA SALLE

DAYTON, Ohio - Kristin Daugherty's 12 points led the University of Dayton women's basketball team past La Salle 71-49 Saturday at UD Arena clinching a spot in the 2009 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Tournament.

Daugherty led all scorers shooting 5-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-6 from beyond the arc, while pulling in five rebounds. Justine Raterman scored 11 points and brought in five rebounds, while Patrice Lalor added 10 points in the Flyer victory.

The Flyers improve to 16-12 overall and 5-7 in Atlantic 10 play with the win, while La Salle drops to 10-17 (1-11).

Dayton beat La Salle in all aspects of the game. The Flyers out-shot the Explorers 41 to 29 percent from the field, 71 to 68 percent from the free-throw line, and out-rebounded the Explorers 44 to 34.

La Salle was led by Jamie Walsh who scored 11 points on the afternoon, including hitting 3-of-6 shots from the three-point line.

The Explorers jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead, but the Flyers responded with a commanding 21 point run. Dayton would lead by as many as 19 in the opening frame before going into the half with a 36-18 lead.

The second half was much of the same as Dayton continued to build on its lead, ahead by as many as 28 points at one point.
