The men's team placed 19th out of 35 teams in the men's white division, while the Flyer women finished 28th out of 37 teams in the women's blue division. Each race included many nationally-recognized teams, as well as many of the best individual runners in the country. Appearing at the meet were the top 70 teams in the nation for men and women.
The men's program's 19th-place finish was especially impressive because they were able to outpace three teams they had never beaten before in head-to-head competition. Running on the campus of Indiana State University, they were able to defeat UCLA, Ohio State and Michigan State for the first time in school history.
Overall, the squad was led by a 38th-place performance by junior Chris Lemon. After setting the Dayton school record at the team's last meet, Lemon led the team with a time of 24:22. Lemon was also the second runner from the Great Lakes region to cross the finish line. Matt Lemon was the second Flyer to cross the finish line in a time of 24:55, which was good for an 80th-place finish. Greg Roeth was the third man for the Flyers with a time of 25:17 and a new personal best. His mark was good enough for 116th in the field, and was Roeth's first appearance among Dayton's top-three runners. Both of the Lemon's and Roeth's times were also good enough to be included in the top-50 Dayton performances of all-time.
Mike Andersen (25:25) came in 128th place and Matt Peters set a new personal best with a time of 25:42 and a 148th place finish to round out the Flyers' top-five.
The women's team was led by Maureen Bulgrin, who placed 82nd overall with a time of 21:55 and has continued to be the Flyers' most reliable runner. The junior has led the team in every single race this season. Liz Coorey was the second Flyer finisher with a time of 22:14.3, good enough for 118th place. Elissa Mason, a sophomore, was close behind in 134th place with a time of 22:26.
Emily Zimmerman (23:12) was the fourth woman for Dayton, placing 190th, while Lindsey Cummings (23:15) rounded out the top five with a 195th-place finish.
The next step for the Flyers will be competing in the Atlantic 10 Championships in St. Louis on Saturday, Oct. 31.
