NOTRE DAME, Ind. – With a well-balanced team effort, the University of Dayton women’s cross country team finished second at the National Catholic Invitational at Notre Dame Golf Course on Friday evening.

"I am extremely pleased with the team today," Head Coach Sarah Hinkley said. "They worked together so well. This is probably the best race I've seen from the ladies since I've been here."

The Flyers collected two top-10 runners overall and all five of UD’s top-five runners finished in the top 20. For the second consecutive meet, senior harrier Elissa Mason led UD with a personal-record 5K time of 17:36. Sophomore Lizzie Gleason finished 10th with a 17:43 time, also a personal-record. In fact, all

Dayton completed the race with 61 team points, just behind first-place Notre Dame with 22. The Flyers edged Atlantic 10 Conference teams Saint Louis (third/117 points) and Xavier (fourth/128 points).

It is the second consecutive season the Flyers have finished second at the National Catholic Invitational.

Dayton returns to action on Sept. 30 at the All-Ohio Championship in Cedarville, Ohio.
