Dayton Flyers

Dayton, OH -  The University of Dayton softball fell to IPFW in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Sunday.

The loss dropped Dayton to 7-9-1 on the season.

IPFW started off the first inning with a run scored followed by three more in the third. Dayton was able to bring in one run in the third as Kristen Pfirrman singled down the left field line. Christine Eggers, who was 1-3, doubled to send Pffirrman to second. Tamsyn Kellough grounded out to the second basemen as Pfirrman was able to score the first run and put Dayton on the board, but the Flyers still trailed 4-1.

The Flyers looked to make a comeback in the fifth as Shannon St. Clair walked and Tamsyn Kellough hit a homerun to straight away centerfield to score a pair of runs and close the gap to 5-3.

UD made one last charge in the seventh as Eggers walked and advanced to second on a groundout. She would score on a double to left center by Kellough to pull Dayton within a run at 5-4, but the Flyers could not plate the tying run and fell to the Mastadons. 

Tamsyn Kellough was 2-4 on the day and all four of the Flyers runs scored were from RBI by Kellough.

Erin LaFayette pitched three solid innings for UD while allowing four runs, walking three and striking out two. Chelsea Grozenski finished the game for Dayton by pitching three innings allowing three hits, one run and struck out one.

Dayton will travel to Wright State to take on the Raiders in another non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at 3 p.m.
